From Pain to Purpose

Long before I became a therapist, meditation teacher, and author, I was someone who deeply struggled. I spent decades on what I call the “diet/riot roller coaster” as I bounced back and forth between my latest fad diet and all-out uncontrollable binges. I also abused drugs and alcohol and lived with nearly constant anxiety and depression. I suffered in silence for far too long.

Eventually, I reached out for help. Some of the tools I was taught were helpful. Some, not so much. And some were truly life-changing. Over time, I rebuilt a natural, enjoyable relationship with food. I learned to treat my body with respect and speak to myself with compassion and kindness. And I discovered powerfully effective ways to calm my nervous system. As I healed, I felt a deep calling to help others do the same. So, back to school I went.

Education & Experience

I earned my Master’s in Counseling from the University of San Francisco, and my Bachelor’s in Sociology from Boston University.

Over the past 30+ years, I’ve worked with clients of all ages, from six-year-olds already struggling with disordered eating and body image, to adults in their late 80s. I’ve supported people through challenges with food, body image, anxiety, depression, addiction, grief, and relationship conflicts, all issues that I once battled with and found relief from.

With the rise of smartphones and digital platforms, I decided to expand my reach beyond my Northern California office and offer easily accessible, affordable support to people worldwide. This led to creating a variety of guided meditations, online courses, and a YouTube channel.

I also teach on the Insight Timer and Aura meditation apps, and have written three books related to disordered eating and body image. My writing has appeared in Psychology Today, Huffington Post, Recovery Warriors, California Therapist Magazine, and more. I’ve been a guest on several podcasts, including The Happiness Lab and Hard Knox with Amanda Knox

A Final Word

Honestly, my greatest achievement isn’t professional, it’s personal. It’s learning to overcome behaviors and thought patterns I once believed would be with me forever. If you struggle with some of the challenges that I once battled, I want you to know that change and healing are possible when you find tools that truly resonate and strategies that genuinely work. One of my deepest passions is guiding others toward clarity, compassion, and calm. You do not have to do it alone.
